WHAT IS ASF
African Swine fever also known as ASF. According to the World health Organization. African Swine Fever is a Viral infectious virus in which affects Wild pigs and Domestic pigs with a 100% fatality rate. Hence the fatality rate that is found in pigs this virus is not a danger to the human health. This Virus may not affect humans but this virus can survive any environment.
History about the African Swine Fever. According to the Us department of agriculture. The African swine fever virus was first discovered in Kenya on the year 1921. Then after a decade the virus spread to the sub-Sahara African countries but stayed in the African Continent until 1957. It was 1957 when the virus was found to have spread in one of the Portugal pig farms in Europe. This virus caused a rapid depopulation on pigs with more then 10,000 pigs being caught by the virus but the Virus was able to be controlled. 1980 the virus was found in the Dominican republic which was able to kill almost half of the population of the pigs. Soon after it was found in the Haiti on 1984.The virus stayed in the countries in Europe until 1995, but the virus was re-introduced to Europe by the spread in Germany on the year 2007 which cause the rapid spread of the virus into Eastern Europe and Russian Federations. The spread of the virus soon widen by 2014 to the European Union, which became a big threat to the pig production in the area at 2020. the Virus was able to spread to the Asian countries on the year 2018 with the first discovery in China which the virus is present until the current time.
